Wedding Cake is an indica-dominant hybrid, usually sitting around 60/40 indica to sativa. It was created by Seed Junky Genetics, a California-based breeder with a serious track record. The genetics come from crossing Triangle Kush with Animal Mints, which gives Wedding Cake its distinct combination of potency, sweetness, and physical relaxation.

Some older sources list the parentage as Girl Scout Cookies crossed with Cherry Pie, but the Seed Junky lineage (Triangle Kush x Animal Mints) is the one that's been confirmed and is generally accepted as the real deal.

The strain gained massive visibility when it won the Leafly Strain of the Year award back in 2019, and it hasn't lost momentum since.

Aroma and Flavor

The name is apt. Wedding Cake genuinely smells and tastes like some kind of sweet baked confection. The dominant aroma is a rich, creamy vanilla sweetness with undertones of tangy earth and a peppery spice that comes through on the break. There's also a faint sourness hiding underneath, almsot like sourdough, which keeps the sweetness from being one-dimensional.

When smoked, the flavor is remarkably smooth. Sweet and doughy on the inhale, with that vanilla cream note front and center. The exhale brings more of the earthy pepper and a subtle citrus tang that rounds everything out. It's a dessert strain in the truest sense, one of the better tasting varieties you can put in a joint or a vaporizer.

Effects

Wedding Cake hits hard. Let's just get that out of the way upfront. THC levels regularly test between 24% and 27%, with some phenotypes pushing even higher. This is not a strain for the faint of heart or for people who haven't built some tolerance.

The onset is surprisingly cerebral for an indica-leaning hybrid. You'll feel a rush of euphoria and mental clarity that's almost stimulating, which makes it a more versatile strain than you might expect from something with this much indica in its background. Growing Wedding Cake

Wedding Cake is a moderate to advanced grow. It's not the most demanding strain out there, but it does reward growers who pay attention to detail and punish those who get lazy with their environment.

The plants grow compact and bushy with dense, thick colas that absolutely pack on the trichomes during the final weeks of flower. Flowering time is around 7 to 9 weeks indoors, which is on the shorter side for a strain this potent.

Yields are solid. Indoor growers can expect around 450 to 550 grams per square meter with proper training and light management. Outdoor plants can push up to 600 grams or more per plant, but they need a warm, dry climate to really perform. Mediterranean or similar conditions are ideal.

The main challenge with Wedding Cake is bud density. Those thick colas can trap moisture and become breeding grounds for mold if you're not careful with humidity and airflow. Defoliation during flower is pretty much essential. Open up the canopy, let light and air reach the lower bud sites, and keep your RH in check.

Wedding Cake also responds well to topping and LST. The branching structure lends itself to SCROG setups where you can create an even canopy and maximize light exposure across all bud sites.

The Verdict

Wedding Cake earned its reputation. The flavor is exceptional, the effects are powerful and well-balanced, and the bag appeal is ridiculous. Those frosty, purple-tinged buds practically sell themselves. For growers, it's a rewarding project that produces top-shelf flower without requiring a decade of experience.
